Public Information
The Public Information Officer (PIO) is the department’s spokesperson for the media, both on and off the scene. The PIO is also the department’s interagency and neighborhood liaison. As Neighborhood Liaison, the PIO represents the department in the city’s four neighborhood areas, working with neighborhood associations on community meetings and events.
The PIO also coordinates activities of the Economic Development Department pertaining to fire issues and represents the Fire Department in citywide projects (traffic and preservation plans, alley abandonments, alley closures/restricted accesses, speed bump installations, dangerous buildings, urban design plans, street widths, Knox access retrofit program, and capital improvements).
The PIO is a member of the Special Events Review Committee, which reviews and evaluates requests for street closures and permitted activities. The PIO also assists developers with fire service issues, coordinates the Reserves’ participation at public events, and obtains the resources needed for public education programs and events
