Two Dogs Rescued From Bottom of Twenty Foot Deep Abandoned Well

Sacramento- two large and apparently, wild dogs were found at the bottom of a twenty foot abandoned well by Sacramento City Animal Control Officers.  They requested assistance from the Sacramento Fire Department to help retrieve the animals. Sacramento Firefighters responded and conducted  a “Confined Space Rescue”.

Two Firefighters were given instruction from Animal Control Officers on how to use their tranquilizer guns. The Firefighters went down into the well and successfully tranquilized the dogs and after a few minutes, they attached harnesses to them and pulled them up. The dogs appeared to be OK and were taken by the Animal Control Officers.

It is not known how the dogs gained access to the abandoned well house. Firefighters requested City Dangerous Buildings to respond and also a “board up contractor” was requested to secure the building.
