Sacramento- a two alarm fire burned through a downtown Victorian Apartment building tonight on F Street. The fire broke out at 9:30 P.M. and Sacramento Firefighters were on scene in two minutes. They encountered heavy fire in the basement area of the building and attacked the fire quickly preventing it from spreading to the upper floors. Firefighters were also able to successfully rescue a dog from one of the units in the five unit apartment building.
Because of the type of construction in these old buildings, fire is able to rapidly spread from bottom to top due to the fact that the walls have no built in fire stops. Because of the fast action by Firefighters, the building was saved from total destruction.
The buildings occupants were not able to go back to their units tonight and were going to seek shelter with family and friends. There is no official dollar loss estimate, but the damage was significant. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
