Boy Locked in Gun Safe

Sacramento- an eleven year old boy became locked inside a gun safe on the showroom floor of a Costco in Sacramento.  Firefighters received the call at 1:41 P.M. and were on scene in four minutes.

The eleven year old boy went inside the safe and somehow the door closed, locking him inside. The locking mechanism is battery operated, and the battery was either dead or missing. A new battery was installed, but there is a built in timing mechanism that does not allow the combination to work for a few minutes.

Sacramento Firefighters were concerned that the air inside may not be enough for the boy to survive so they were preparing to drill air holes in the safe when the timing mechanism in the lock began to work again and they were able to free the boy using the safes combination. The boy was safe and unharmed.
