The Sacramento Fire Department wishes to remind everyone that when you turn back your clock next weekend (11-01-09) to replace the batteries in all of your smoke detectors with new, fresh batteries.
Smoke detectors can save lives. It is estimated that 70% of home fire deaths in the U.S. occur in homes that don't have a working smoke detector. In one in five American homes with at least one smoke detector installed, not a single one was working, one 1992 survey quoted in the report shows.
The number one reason for a smoke detector that does not work is a “dead battery”!
By taking a little time to change the batteries, you could be saving the lives of you and your family!
It is also important to dispose of the used batteries properly. It is illegal to dispose of batteries in household garbage or recycling containers. Visit this link for more information on proper battery disposal:
