Sacramento- This Saturday at 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. there will be a Neighborhood Evacuation Drill in South Sacramento. This drill is being organized and ran by Ashlyn Robertson, who is a high school Senior at Sacramento New Technology High School. She is doing with the help of Sacramento CERT and Teen CERT programs. Below is a letter from Ashlyn;
Hello Everyone,
My name is Ashlyn Robertson. I am in my senior year at Sacramento New Technology High School. For my senior project, I need the help of everyone in my neighborhood. My senior project is Preparedness and Evacuation based on CERT/Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). My goal is to prepare my whole neighborhood for any type of disaster.
Sacramento is now the number one city in the nation for the possibility of a major flood. Just this summer we have seen the loss of many homes due to fire. In the event of a major disaster in Sacramento, emergency personnel will be overwhelmed and residents will be on their own for up to 72 hours or longer. I have developed an evacuation plan for everyone in our neighborhood.
On Saturday October 24, 2009, from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., I have organized a mock evacuation for our neighborhood. We will evacuate our neighborhood to St. Luke’s Church on Center Parkway. The Address for the church is 7595 Center Parkway Sacramento, CA 95823. Once you arrive at the church, you will have the opportunity to attend an invaluable two- hour NET (Neighborhood Emergency Training) presentation.
I encourage you to take the time to get to know your neighbors and take advantage of this unique opportunity. As well as helping me complete my Senior Project, you will have the benefit of knowing how to prepare yourselves and your families for any type of emergency.
